Hunting on BHC Land
If you want to hunt on BHC lands, you must:
- Have a valid 2007 Wisconsin hunting license
- Pay club dues prior to hunt.
- Dues must be given to John Griffin
- If by check, make it out to “Badger Hunting Club”
- Pay the semester dues at one of the weekly meetings
- If you don’t pay at a meeting, I need to hear from John that you have paid so this might seriously delay your hunting times!!
- Attend at least two meetings a month
- The reason for this is two-fold
- All info about properties, new hunting opportunities, etc. will be discussed at the meetings
- We need an accurate hunter headcount in order to make sure that there are enough places for people to hunt
- Respect and follow all rules and conditions that the BHC places on hunting lands
- Have your own weapon
- Weapons can be borrowed from other members, but it is your responsibility to take care of this
- Ask if need help with whom to talk, ask!
-
Have your own ride
- This is not a mandatory rule, but we don’t have time to try to line up rides for everyone.
- If you need a ride, ask around and we will try to get you setup.
- If you have an empty seat on your way out, email the group list asking if anyone wants to go.
- All hunting requests must:
- Be directed to Ian Mandel (until we get a sign-up calendar up and running) either by email(icmandel@wisc.edu) or by hand at the weekly meetings
- These requests must include the following:
- Name (for right now, I am horrible with names and don’t know most of you, so some other identifying info would be helpful)
- Phone Number
- Dates and times of desired hunt
- Weapon of choice
- Weapons available if we cant meet your first choice
- Farm of choice if known
- Ride description-(model, color, license plate)
- Sign up each week will start on Sunday at 9pm, all requests will be processed on a first-come/first serve basis and you cannot sign-up more than one week in advance.
- With the exception of the first 24 hours of each sign-up week, all hunting requests must be received 24 hours prior to desired hunting time in order to guarantee a place to hunt
- For requests received later than that, we will try very hard to get you setup, but it will not be guaranteed
- I will respond to you at least 12hrs prior to your hunt (or ASAP if late hunt request) where you are going to be along with directions and details of the hunt.
- Game Managers will be given special privileges (see below)
- If schedules force you to miss your hunting time, and this happens a lot with us being students, call Ian (414-507-7721)
- If there are more than 3 missed hunts without notification or more than 10 missed hunts with notification your hunting requests will always be at the bottom of the list
- We do not want to enforce this rule—let us know if you are not going to be able to make it and we can work with you.
- This both allows other hunters to get out hunting, but more importantly we keep a hunting presence on the farms we are hunting---this is the ONLY way we keep exclusive access to the BHC lands
- Within 24 hours of the completion of a hunt, send an email to me telling me what happened, what did you see, what did you shoot at, did you have any interactions with land owners, neighbors, etc.
- This is being done to provide you with the great success in your hunt, the properties will ranked based on peoples hunting reports, the more you include, the better the chances of the next person (or you)
- We will have butchering and vacuum sealing facilities established for your use, but you have to pay the cost of the vacuum bags (we will be selling boxes of bags at Sam’s Club prices) and you must give 10-12% of the venison to the BHC to be served at the next meeting
- —e.g. part of a front shoulder and trimmings to be ground into hamburger
- You are responsible for the frozen storage of your animals, we will have short term freezer space available(overnight ONLY), but you must move it to your own freezers after that.
Game managers
- These are club members that provide additional help in acquiring and maintaining hunting land and community relations.
- As a result of this, they will also receive special privileges
- GM’s will be allowed to sign up for hunting land up to 3 weeks in advance
- GM’s will receive preferential treatment when land assignments are being established
- GM’s will be given access to limited lands not open to other BHC members
- In general, these properties will be in urban areas with very high deer concentrations where discretion is a must
